The Indore High Court condemned the deaths and the large number of illnesses due to the consumption of contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura. It also criticised the state government, municipal corporation, and district administration for their response to the tragedy. The court during the hearing on Tuesday said that the government’s response to the incident was callous and that the disaster had really hurt Indore’s image all over the country.

The court was hearing several petitions filed in connection with the water contamination incident in Bhagirathpura. In that place, it is alleged that some people died and many others became ill after drinking polluted water. Three petitions were heard on Tuesday, and moreover, two others have been filed and are going to be heard.

The High Court decided to hear all the petitions together, thus emphasising the gravity of the problem. The court during the hearing called the incident the most serious and most shocking, especially in a city like Indore, which is often touted as the cleanest city in the country. The bench was not happy with the status reports of the municipal corporation and district administration, particularly with regard to the information on the number of deaths.
