Vomiting and diarrhea have claimed the 29th death in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area. It is reported that 62-year-old Khubchand Bandhoniya, son of Gannudas, was admitted to the hospital after his health deteriorated, but he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased had sought treatment at the health center twice. The family protested by placing the body at the Bhagirathpura police station before the funeral.

Meanwhile, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court held a hearing on Tuesday, January 27th. The case of deaths due to contaminated water in Indore lasted for over two and a half hours. A report on 23 deaths was presented to the court, of which 16 were attributed to contaminated water, while there was confusion regarding four. Three deaths were not attributed to contaminated water.
The High Court, taking a firm stance during the hearing, ordered an independent investigation. The court stated that the matter involves a serious public health emergency. The right to clean drinking water is part of the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution. Furthermore, the High Court directed the continuation of daily water quality testing and regular health camps and requested an interim report within four weeks. The next hearing in this case will be held on March 5, 2026.
