Indore: Constant torrential rains have now become a menace to citizens in Indore. A building engulfed by a lake collapsed on Friday evening, at Ammar Nagar, Khajrana, inside the Sirpur Lake. This sudden fall caused panic in the area, and women and children ran out in fear to find a higher place. Luckily, people in the house had already gone outside by the time the incident happened, or it would have been a big tragedy. But the collapsing building hit another house in the area, whose roof fell down. A video on the building collapse has also emerged, demonstrating the power of the disaster.

Local resident Aslam Khokhar said that due to the increased water level in Sirpur Lake, over 150 houses in the colony had flooded. During the night, people could be found fighting as women and children cried out in distress. The municipal corporation team, armed with JCB machines and other equipment, arrived at the scene to seal the water flowing out of the lake. People were asked not to panic by the zonal officer, Nirmata Hindolia. By about 12:15 a. m. the water flow had diminished, but by this time havoc had devastated the whole locality.

Considering the deteriorating circumstances, Collector Ashish Singh declared that all government and non-government schools, along with Anganwadi centers in the district, will go on holiday on Saturday. The order extends to classes until grade 12.

The rainfall which was received in the city on Friday was 1.5 inches, and this has contributed to the amount of rain received in this season to 33.5 inches, as compared to the average rain received, which is 38 inches. This implies that only 4.5 inches of rainfall is needed to achieve the seasonal average. In the meantime, the weather department is predicting good rainfall in 5 to 7 days.
