Mehar: In Madhya Pradesh, the Mehar police are achieving successive victories in combating the relentless narcotics trade. Within 24 hours, Mehar Thana police carried out another significant operation against those involved in illicit opium cultivation. The accused cultivated poppy fields amidst mustard crops, spanning approximately three acres.
Earlier, the Mehar police had apprehended a young man involved in opium cultivation in the Amarpatan Thana area during the morning. Subsequently, in the Badra Thana region, a substantial quantity of opium plants was seized from the village of Kakara. It has been revealed that opium cultivation was being carried out in fields expanding across three acres amidst mustard crops.
Opium, known for its addictive properties, is subject to varying legal regulations worldwide. Afghanistan is the largest global producer of opium. Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh, the districts of Mandsaur and Neemuch take the lead in opium cultivation. The series of incidents involving unauthorized opium cultivation in the Mehar district suggests an alarming trend, indicating a potential nexus of illegal operators attempting to turn Mehar into a hub akin to Mandsaur.
In a late-night operation, the police are actively uprooting opium plants from the accused’s fields by deploying labourers. As of now, the identities of the accused in this case have not been disclosed.
The incident of opium cultivation in Kakara village came to light, prompting the presence of officials, including Deputy Tehsildar and Badra Thana in-charge Arun Soni, who arrived at the scene with police forces. The opium crop was cleverly interwoven with mustard crops to conceal it from prying eyes. However, as the opium pods emerged and became visible, discussions started within the village.
Following the crackdown in Sua village of Amarpatan, the subsequent discussions gained momentum, leading the matter to the attention of the police department. The involvement of law enforcement, including the meticulous efforts of officials and police forces, highlights the commitment to curbing illicit activities and ensuring public safety in the region.
