Jabalpur: It is worrying that, during the summer, passengers are daily sacrificing their lives in overcrowded trains whereby several illegal vendors are vending food. Another recent event in Jabalpur revealed how the railway’s food supply had become highly unhygienic and low quality because of vendors’ illegal suppliers.
After receiving complaints, a team was seized from the Food Department immediately. They were carrying out their operations near Nehru Nagar Anna Basti, and they arrested persons who were preparing foods like samosas, potato balls, and other food materials, all prepared and sold without license. In this case, during the inspection, how the area was observed was extremely filthy and messy. As mentioned in this case, these particular vendors were operating in the shadow to provide food items on the railway without a license, which is rather alarming.
The food safety officer of the railway zone, Pankaj Shrivastava, said they learned about the vendors selling substandard food items such as samosas, pakoras, and other related items through the information provided by the RPF. When a District Police received such information from the public, a joint team comprising of RPF and the Food Department raided area one and proceeded to take severe action on three vendors. As mentioned, the seized food items were burnt on the scene, with NO dumping allowed as with the same products. The mishap has been under investigation, and further follow-up on the culprits will be instituted as guided by the law.
To cite this example, the following incident relates to the actual practices carried out in the railway catering system. The personal lives of passengers are in danger because of careless vendors who risk their lives by selling foods of poor quality and health compliance. Hence, it becomes paramount to implement strict parliamentary rules and authorities for implementing and enforcing such policies and actions to provide hygienically fit and safe food to passengers during their train travel.
Security and satisfaction of passengers must remain the primary concern for the heads of railways, and measures to remove unlawful persons and provide food products of high quality in trains must be taken.
