In Morena, Madhya Pradesh, a major crackdown on illegal sand mining was conducted when the forest department team stopped the dumper carrying illegally mined sand. The dumper driver, who was interrogated, reportedly told shocking things when questioned, saying the jeep was his uncle’s son, Minister Aidal Singh Kansana’s son. The matter is currently being investigated.

Acting on a tip-off, the forest department team reached the scene when the sand was being dumped from the Chambal River. When the officials spotted the driver, he fled at high speed, but the gumboot of the car burst, and he and the dumper were caught. Several names and phone numbers were written on the vehicle, which the authorities said might have led to some people of influence.

According to the dumper driver, Diwan, the sand was transported from the Chambal River to Joura, Kailaras and Sabalgarh. He also said that he earned ₹1,000 per trip to ferry the sand. National Chambal Sanctuary Superintendent Bhura Gaikwad said that during routine patrolling, they found the dumper. The flat tyre made him unsuccessful at first in his attempt to escape. Kotwali police station has been handed over the dumper and the driver by both the dumper and the driver.

Minister Aidal Singh Kansana had previously described the aforementioned “sand mafia” as the “hunger mafia” in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly budget session, and that had caused a political uproar. The illegal sand trade in the state is now being questioned, and questions are being raised about law enforcement and administrative action against what now seems to be the son’s involvement in illegal mining.
