The Madhya Pradesh High Court has asked the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) to reply to the appointment of several state government job positions in the Higher Education Department of the state. NB Regional MPPSC is not the only party that received notices with regard to this. Motif of the case is said to be irregularities in backlog posts under Other Backward classes (OBC) in the area of recruitment of Assistant Professors.

As part of the petition, the petitioners claimed that MPPSC had reserved some OBC posts in its 2019 recruitment and took away those chances of suitable candidates. This became a problem again in the year 2022 when the commission released 200 positions of Assistant Professors in the English subject, but reportedly did not include the OBC backlog vacancies. According to the petitioners, this omission had direct implications for the OBC candidates who had been waiting to get a fair representation in the process of recruitment.

Upon cognisance of these allegations, the High Court has asked MPPSC to file an advance copy of the petition and submit its reply too. The bench of Justice Maninder Singh Bhatti is hearing the case. The petitioners are falling under the OBC group and have petitioned the court to seek justice and the right implementation of reservation norms at recruitment in the public domain.

The next hearing has been scheduled by the court for July 31, where MPPSC will have to provide its clarification. Based on this case, there are still concerns about observing reservation policies in state-level appointments and even the problem of handling cases, especially those on backlog, which are reserved under the disadvantaged categories. The decision of the case is likely to affect further recruitment campaigns and make the observance of reservations more stringent.
