Gwalior: Gwalior High Court has issued a significant order regarding granting increments to retired electricity employees. The court stated that four employees who retired from the power company on June 30 should receive the benefits of the salary increase that occurred on July 1. Additionally, the court directed the company to review and improve pensions within three months.
Ramnaresh Tomar and Hari Babu retired on June 30, 2021, while Ambika Charan Verma and Siyaram Rajak retired on June 30, 2022. Traditionally, on July 1 each year, the electricity company provides salary increment benefits to its employees and officers. However, those who retired on June 30 were not included in this benefit. Filing a petition through their advocate in the HC, the four retirees challenged the company’s actions as illegal.
The retirees argued that the Supreme Court has clearly stated that employees retiring on June 30 should receive the benefit of the salary increase that comes into effect on July 1. The High Court accepted the petition, expressing agreement with the arguments presented and acknowledging the legal violation committed by the company.
In response to the retirees’ plea, the Court ordered the company’s officials to implement the increment benefits within three months. This decision aligns with the precedent set by the Supreme Court in similar cases. The court emphasized the need for timely compliance with its directive.
This development highlights the importance of ensuring equitable treatment for retired employees, aligning with legal principles and precedents. The judiciary’s intervention ensures that retired individuals receive the rightful benefits and corrections in their pensions, contributing to a fair and just working environment even post-retirement.
