Burhanpur: At the moment, there is a status of heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh. Thus, due to the increase in water levels on Sunday evening, two gates of the Parasdoh Dam on the Tapi River in Betul were released. Heavy rains have caused the water level in the river to rise, and hence water at the latter is released through the dam to ensure that it does not spill over.
Flooding Due to Heavy Rains
Due to the heavy rainfall, the Cheelar River in Shajapur district flooded last night and has not stopped even today. This led to the waterlogging of lower parts of the city, such as New Road, Market Tanki Chauraha, and other parts of the city. People living in these areas are struggling because of the flood.
Meanwhile, for Burhanpur, rain continues unabated for the second day, and for the first time in this monsoon season, the water gates of the Parasdoh Dam have been opened. This action has also contributed to the rising water level of the Tapi River, which has affected this city. Most of Raj Ghat and Satiyar Ghat by the riverbank is now flooded, and this has made the people living there leave their homes.
At the moment, no specific warnings are provided by the local authorities, but the latter are ready for the worst. This is due to the rising water levels that have been realized, and security personnel have been stationed around the river areas. The flow has increased as the gates of the Parasdoh Dam have been opened by 20 centimeters, discharging 51 cubic meters per second. Currently, the water level in the dam has been recorded to be at 636.71 meters. This means the target level to be maintained in the dam is 636.07 meters on the 31st of July, which is leveled to the objective of achieving 60 percent of the overall capacity of the dam among all those constructed within the country. The full spillage capacity of this particular dam is calculated to be 639.10 meters.
