Bhopal: Extreme changes in weather are being seen in Madhya Pradesh at present. After lots of rainfall in April, the region is now warm with temperatures reaching over 44°C, a record for May and June. IMD has warned about a heatwave in the districts of Gwalior, Bhind, and Morena. According to the latest weather prediction, there will be a heatwave in the Gwalior-Chambal region on June 10 and 11.
Sunday saw many parts of the state reach over 44°C, which started a severe heat wave. A temperature of 44.8°C was the hottest recorded at Nowgaon in Chhatarpur district. The mercury was at least 40°C in 21 different cities. Among the hottest spots were Tikamgarh with 43.7°C, two places having 43.6°C—Khajuraho and Shivpuri, and in Shivpuri/Sagar and Satna with 43°C and 42.7°C respectively.
Similar heatwave were experienced in other districts, for example, Seoni and Ratlam (40.2°C), IGP Growth Centre Shajapur (42.2°C), Sidhi (42°C), Malajkhand (41°C), Mandla (40.5°C), Narmadapuram (40.4°C), Umaria (41.4°C), Rewa (42.4°C), and Damoh (42.5°C).
Even though the northern areas are experiencing a heatwave, three cyclonic systems may bring a change in the weather further south and in the southeast. IMD forecasters have said thunder, lightning, dust storms, and light rain will likely hit Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat on Monday. Even so, the heatwave is expected to keep most places in the state feeling hot.
