Jabalpur: The central government has been asked to respond to the High Court on the awareness and promotion of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court has asked the government why it has made hardly any efforts to bring awareness about the act. Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Vivek Jain directed the government to submit a response in two weeks through a bench. In case of failure within the stipulated time, a fine of ₹10,000 will be imposed.

Responding to a petition filed by advocate Amitabh Gupta from Jabalpur, this development has been made. The petition points out the need for awareness programs and programmes for the promotion of the POCSO Act. It further states that no significant steps have been taken to inculcate the public into the provisions and the importance of the act. The next date in the case was set for May 13.

In another case, the High Court has issued notices to the Rewa Collector, Superintendent of Police (SP), and Station House Officer (SHO). Moreover, also, the court has ordered them to find a missing minor girl and submit a status report. Kamlesh, a resident of Rewa, has filed a habeas corpus petition because his minor daughter has gone missing for the last two months. In this case, despite lodging a police complaint, no progress has been made.

A bench of Justice Vinay Shraff and Justice Sanjeev Saxena has directed the Rewa SP to file a status report by April 9. The thrust of the court’s directives is on the importance of the urgency of the matter and the imperative for the action to be taken in the shortest possible timeline if the matter is about a minor that is missing.
