Morena: There’s a stir in the Kailaras area of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh. Four leopards, who had migrated from Kuno National Park, were seen roaming freely in the fields. A video of this was filmed by villagers and went viral on social media. This incident occurred near Rakra village in the Kisarouli Gram Panchayat, where farmers are unable to care for their crops due to fear of the leopards. A forest department team arrived at the scene, but the rescue operation has yet to be successful.
This incident is a new example of the increasing tendency of cheetahs in Kuno National Park to enter human settlements. In June 2025, five cheetahs were seen crossing the highway in the Jaura area of Morena, causing panic among villagers. Now, a group of four cheetahs was found roaming in the fields in the Kailaras area. A local villager said, “We went to guard our fields early in the morning when we saw four cheetahs from a distance. They were lying comfortably on the grass and wandering around. We ran away in fear, but we managed to take a video with our mobile phone.” This video is rapidly going viral on social media, in which cheetahs are seen moving comfortably among the fields.
The presence of cheetahs not only threatens crops but also threatens livestock. Cheetahs are being rehabilitated in India under the Kuno Project starting in 2022, but those roaming outside the park pose a threat to villagers. Local farmer organizations have demanded immediate rescue and compensation from the Forest Department. Currently, vigilance is being maintained in the Kailaras area, and forest teams are working to transport the cheetahs back to the park safely.
