Gwalior: In the early morning of Tuesday, there was a serious fire incident in the ICU of the Trauma Center at Jaya Arogya Hospital in Gwalior, resulting from a short circuit in the panel AC unit. The situation caused turmoil as patients had to be quickly moved from the ICU. Unfortunately, among all the patients coming from Shivpuri district, one of them passed away during the occurrence. According to the first findings, this rather sad demise may have stemmed from suffocation during the blaze.

It has also exposed severe negligence on safety measures. It has recently been discovered that the safety extinguishers in the ICU were expired, and some did not have the necessary stickers to indicate whether they had been refilled or their expiration date. This has also heightened some concerns about the hospital safety degree tailored in order to discharge its operations. Later, the doctors and attendants present tried to put the fire off by using a number of these old-fashioned fire extinguishers, though they could not prevent the fire before the fire brigade reached there.

After that, a case was registered, and the Dean of the Medical College, Dr. R. K. S. Dhakad, passed an order for inquiry. He said an ICU emergency was put up as soon as the fire was reported, and the patients moved to different areas. Speaking about the case of the deceased patient, Dr Dhakad explained that the patient was a patient of Shivpuri Medical College who was brought to Gwalior, and the patient was dead already in the brain when the fire incident occurred. However, he quickly added that government business is taken seriously and will be investigated. Regarding the fire safety equipment, which is expired, I have sent notices to the respective authorities so they can explain the details.

This particular event is not an isolated case of fire accidents in government hospitals in the region of Madhya Pradesh. Such situations have been observed in the past and in most of the cases, the problem was observed with the absence of appropriate fire safety equipment or having expired resources.
