A case against the construction firm involved in the collapse of a ₹400 crore bridge constructed on a National Highway in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh has been filed. The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) filed the complaint in the Shahpura police station accusing that there were gross negligence in carrying out the project.
The FIR mentions the name of Waghar Infra Private Limited and M/s Sorathia Velji Ratna, as well as the company representatives Vinod Jain and Hukum Singh, according to the officials. MPRDC has also claimed that the companies did not follow the compulsory construction standards and safety standards when constructing the bridge.
The corporation in its complaint admitted that there were a lot of oversights in the quality of materials to be used and structural safety measures. According to the authorities, the necessary measures were not taken and the integrity and the life of the bridge were not ensured because of poor standards.
This event has sparked significant concerns, particularly after another section of the same National Highway was reported to have collapsed some few months before the incidence. Although that was the earlier warning signal, it is claimed that sufficient corrective actions were not taken which resulted in the recent structural failure.
According to MPRDC officials, the negligence endangered the safety of people and that the appropriate action is underway on the grounds against the individuals. The police have started investigations to establish the level of liability and whether to embolden the criminal negligence charges by technical and expert evaluation.
