Indore police have registered a case against cartoonist Hemant Malviya for posting a disputed post online. After receiving a complaint from Vinay Joshi, a worker with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the FIR was registered at the Lasudia police station.

According to the papers filed, Cartoonist Malviya posted a derogatory cartoon about RSS and the Prime Minister on Twitter, which resulted in major criticism on several social media sites. Because of the inappropriate content, many found the cartoon offensive and asked for legal steps to be taken.

Police registered a case against Malviya under Sections 196, 299, 302, 352, 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Section 67(A) of the IT Act related to publishing obscene materials electronically.

Hemant Malviya has faced controversy more than once in the past. Before, he was taken to court following a social media post about Prime Minister Modi’s mother. A further FIR was registered against him by Baba Ramdev at the Kankhal police station in Haridwar because of another offensive comment he made.

Right now, the police are conducting an investigation, and the cyber cell is looking into what the post means. Authorities are studying the information to find out if it was created to cause upheaval or to attack certain individuals or groups.

The investigation has once more shown that publishing politically sensitive information online about top politicians and national groups can have legal and social implications.
