Bhopal: In a major late-night operation, the Excise Department in Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal, carried out a massive operation as it invaded the illegal barter of liquor and the consumption of liquor at places where they were being sold and let the bars be active beyond the given time. The operation, undertaken by four different teams of the department, targeted areas considered susceptible to such a violation, such as Kerwa Dam Road, Ratibad, Bairagarh Colony, and the 10 Number Market area.
Their focus was on restaurants, hotels, and roadside dhabas that were said to be selling liquor after that period or permitting its consumption in illicit places. Due to this well-organized move, 48 cases under different laws of the Excise Act have been filed by the department. They do not involve only cases against the customers who are discovered consuming alcohol from illegal places, but also cases filed against the owners and operators of the places where such activities are carried on.
To this effect, this enforcement drive is one of the many initiatives by officials to deal with the rising cases of late-night drinking from unauthorized places within the city. The department stressed that stern action will still be taken against law abusers here and those operating without the proper licenses or opening outside of their operating hours.
The Excise Department also added that such crackdowns are meant to discourage consumers as well as business owners from conducting unscrupulous activities. They think that the action will introduce discipline to nightlife operations and law and order into the region. They further promised to conduct more surprise checks and raids in the future on a regular basis to ensure compliance and public safety concerns.
The crackdown has served as a strong message to the hospitality industry in Bhopal and outlined the importance of complying with the legally defined norms related to liquor serving and operation timings.
