Bhopal: In a striking move, the former Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Govind Singh, has received a death threat. The threat was made through a letter written by an unknown person, which was posted to Singh’s house in Bhind’s Lahar area. In the letter written in a threatening language of violence, the admonition to Singh is to pull up his socks or be ready to meet death.

In the letter, the sender was very clear, saying, “Govind Singh, I am warning you to stop your political activities in Lahar. Your dead body will talk soon. You are always complaining about every leader and senior police officer. You have been warned to improve your behavior soon or else be ready to get dead.”

Sophisticated threats in the letters sent to Singh have sparked fears for his safety and other regional politicians. The letter alleges that Singh interfered with the country’s local political climate and allegedly filed complaints against political leaders and some police officers.

A recognized political personality and former leader of opposition in Madhya Pradesh, Govind Singh has received such threats earlier also, but this letter has escalated the security issues. The threat has become life-threatening and is raising the issue of increasing intolerance and violence against politicians.

The authorities have been informed of the situation, and to prevent any danger in the future, an investigation is being conducted to determine the source of the threat aimed at Singh. This case brings out some of the dangers facing personalities in the public domain, as well as the need to involve tight security in order to safeguard personalities adhering to these threats.

Growth of these tendencies will involve concern for the ability of the authorities to manage these threats and which actions are possible in order to avoid the occurrence of such tragedies in the future.
