Jabalpur: It is in an interesting development that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has raided the house of The Deputy Commissioner of Tribal Welfare Department in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The concerned police officer, Jagdish Sarvate, was under the scanner when the EOW had received credible information that there was a disproportion between his known assets and his known sources of income.
The search and seizure were conducted in the house of Sarvate in Rampur region at Shankar Shah Nagar. A squad of the Jabalpur unit of EOW got to the scene early in the morning and started to do a thorough search of the place. The sources claim that the operation is in the scope of overall investigation of government officials supposedly involved in financial irregularities.
In the search, EOW team is said to have found a number of documents and property records that indicated holding of property much more than reported income by the officer. The documents are already under investigation by the officials, and additional verification is going on. This exercise should take several hours depending on the quantity of the material that is discovered.
There are initial evaluations given that suggest there might be another row of properties and wealth holdings that are not stated in the official lists. Bank statements, investments and movable properties like cars and jewels are also being investigated by the EOW.
This is the action taken by the EOW as continuation of its crackdown against corruption and abuse of government position in Madhya Pradesh. Insiders in the department believe that additional ones of these operations could ensue since the investigations are ongoing on other cases of suspicion.
At the time of the recent update, the raid was continuing, and the official announcement should be expected of the EOW. The administrative circles have been concerned about the case, and it is set to have wider implications in the department.
