Bhopal: The Election Commission of India has put forward measures like support in finances when the officials on polling duty or guards face any injuries or death while on election duty. The nodal agency has come up with rules in this respect, offering relocation grants of up to ₹30 lakh as well as cashless medical services. The provision of the other financial policy will be extended to these employees as well.

The Election Commission has given instructions that financial aid shall be granted to the relatives when the lives of election officials deployed on duty are lost, or they get serious injuries. According to these orders, the personnel involved in various election-related work, including the CAPF, the state police, the home guard, and the private individuals undertaking various discharges like drivers or cleaners, must be equipped with this special ID. 

In case of deaths reported due to any mishap like an accident, explosion, armed attack, or it could even be a Coronavirus infection, the kin of the deceased employee will be compensated with the sum of ₹30 lakhs. Besides them, ₹15 lakh assistance shall be granted for the other manners of death. On top of that, if an extremist or an antisocial element elicits a permanent disability for someone, 15 lakh rupees will be the minimum required to help. In contrast, the maximum required assistance will be 7.5 lakh rupees for anyone who has a permanent disability resulting from a serious injury as a consequence of the same.

In his statement, the Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan has mentioned that any individual who is temporarily leaving the comforts of his/her residence to perform any activity directly related to elections prior or on the polling day is considered to be on election duty. In any event provided the same occurs which might be considered a mishap during the election period, it will be treated as an incident during that duty.

The Election Commission has also ordered-making availed of the medical facilitates in the hospitals of the choice for every person who would work for the election. Instructions have been made on how patients should be treated promptly at health facilities without payment.
