Bhopal: The Rajya Sabha MP, former CM of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, will hold a special screening today, May 13, of the film Phule in Bhopal. The film is inspired by the inspiring and the social reformation by P.B.S. and P.B.S. Phule. The screening is only for Congress party workers and leaders, and would be used to create awareness regarding Phule’s aim to introduce progressive ideology and an endless fight for social equality and justice.
The screening event is to be held at DB Mall in Bhopal at 6:30 PM, and 340 seats have been booked for Congress workers in this movie theater. Senior leaders of the Congress, including Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Chief Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, will be there with Digvijaya Singh.
The movie Phule shows the people of the visionary pair who rose to fight caste prejudice and gender predilection in nineteenth-century India. By education and activism, they laid the ground for a more inclusive society. Based on a true story, the movie illuminates how India’s first female teacher, Savitribai Phule, appeared as Jyotirao Phule fought hard for the oppressed and for women’s right to learn.
As said by Digvijaya Singh, screening is not only a cinematic venture but an educational movement to prevail on the members of Congress to get back to the party’s ground values of equality, justice, and reform. Having watched the movie, party workers are supposed to have annexed inspiration from the legacy of the Phule couple and use the ideals in their social and political efforts.
The event is a reflection of the renewed interest of the Congress party in the social reform narratives and its efforts to create more inclusive development with the help of awareness and education.
