Jabalpur: On the second Monday of the holy month of Shravan in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, a grand Kanwar Yatra was organized, commencing from Gwarighat. Notably, former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh actively participated in the event. In a display of devotion, Digvijaya Singh walked barefoot during the yatra and also carried a kanwar (a pole with pots of holy water). Alongside him, Congress MLA Sanjay Yadav, MLA Vinay Saxena, and Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh were also present to partake in the religious procession.

In a conversation, with the media Digvijaya Singh shared his lack of concern regarding the remarks made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He emphasized that religion is a matter for him separate, from the realm of politics. He emphasized that political motives do not drive his participation in religious events.

Each year, the kanwar yatra takes place in Sanskardhani, and this year was no exception. The devotees embarked on a 35-kilometer journey from Gwarighat, carrying holy water from the Narmada river, and traversed through five assembly constituencies of Jabalpur. It is estimated that around one lakh Kanwariyas (pilgrims) enthusiastically participated in the yatra. The Kanwar Yatra received warm receptions at every stop along the way.

The Kanwar Yatra holds immense religious significance for devotees, symbolizing their devotion to Lord Shiva. The active involvement of prominent political figures like Digvijaya Singh showcases the inclusive nature of such events, transcending political affiliations and emphasizing the spiritual essence.
