Jabalpur: Before filing a petition in the High Court of MP on alleged irregularities in the Rajgarh Lok Sabha elections Digvijay Singh went to Hanuman temple inside the court. To get the divine blessings, Singh bowed down before Lord Hanuman. He deposited money in the offered box as a donation and had an interview with the temple priest. This ordeal was observed by legal professionals, most of whom were lawyers in the temple, and thereafter, Singh complied by signing certain forms.
Digvijay Singh’s Petition
Singh, a candidate in the Rajgarh Lok Sabha election, approached the high court and filed a petition stating that he had been expelled from the constituency and that many irregularities during the election process had taken place. He complained that the Election Commission had not exercised proper processes and did not observe the rules as they should be. Singh goes further and says the whole election was characterised by procedural irregularities that nearly tainted its credibility.
Just before filing of the petition, Digvijay Singh staged a press conference in which he openly alleged that the Election Commission was negligent. He said that such a petition is backed by evidence and facts. Singh also reassured that he would not allow electoral processes to be compromised within his country, and he insisted on impartiality and embracing the law.
Allegations
Singh also described in his petition some of the instances that he deemed to be the Election Commission’s non-compliance with its rules. Speaking to journalists, he claimed that the mistakes had influenced the elections and demanded an examination of the situation. Some of the allegations that Singh has directed against Dodore and other officials, that he said eroding democracy, are procedural improprieties and infractions of electoral legislation.
