A 20-year-old Dalit woman, who had gone out with her fiancé in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, was allegedly raped by four men who also assaulted her male partner, said a police official on Wednesday.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arvind Srivastava, four men were involved in the gang-rape, and three of them have been arrested.
“The victim, a resident of an area under Churhat police station limits, went out with her fiancé on Tuesday when they parked their motorcycle on the roadside near Kathoutha and went to the nearby hill”, said the police officer. Adding further, he said that the four men who were roaming in the area spotted the couple, and that’s when they beat up the woman’s fiancé and chased him away, only to rape the woman. ASI has informed that five police teams have been deployed to nab the accused absconding.
While the Madhya Pradesh Police immediately began the investigation, politics erupted as the opposition Congress targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the gang-rape incident and added that the crime had exposed the sorry state of law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari highlighted the state of law and order in the state and mentioned incidents in the last three years alone. The state president mentioned that there have been 7,418 incidents of rape of Dalit and tribal women, 338 gang-rapes, and 558 murders registered in Madhya Pradesh.

These figures prove the failure of the BJP government,” the former minister maintained. said the shameful incident tarnishes the entire humanity and also highlights the ‘horrific state’ of law and order.
