Bhopal: The authorities in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, have cracked down on two snack manufacturing units because they violated environmental rules meant to reduce air pollution. The BMC has fined the factories ₹75,000 each for using banned coal-based burners, following instructions from the NGT.

Two Chhola Road factories were the target of the crackdown. Mohan Namkeen Factory paid a fine of ₹50,000, and Shaanvi Singdana Factory was fined ₹25,000. Even when it was clear that using coal-based stoves to prepare sweets was banned, these units were using them anyway.

Official action has been taken in Bhopal to prevent the use of coal burners and tandoors because of the rising threat from air pollution. Teams formed by the municipality are carefully tracking this order to enhance air quality. It is the job of zonal officers and ward-level inspectors from these teams to guarantee that commercial businesses follow environmental standards.

Authorities said the action was part of a plan to make sure the guidelines from the NGT are enforced and to reduce the use of polluting fuels in food preparation. Officials are routinely checking businesses and fining any firms that break the rules.

Moreover, the BMC has told hotel, restaurant and marriage garden operators that using coal for cooking will result in legal action. These steps align with the city’s larger strategy to reduce its environmental footprint by exploring cleaner methods in food and business systems.
