The recent spike in COVID-19 cases throughout Madhya Pradesh and the rest of India has once again got people concerned. With the infections still on the rise, health officials are asking citizens to be responsible and careful, following the protective measures.

Gwalior on Tuesday registered four fresh COVID-19 cases through regular testing. Of 13 samples that were tested, four were positive, which indicates a significant increase in the local rate of infection. These new cases have brought 16 the number of active patients with COVID-19 in the city.

It is also noteworthy that three out of four new cases are linked to the Jayarogya Hospital (JAH), which is one of the key hospitals in the city. Two junior doctors and one MBBS student are among the infected people, and all of them are women. It gives rise to an alarming tendency of infections occurring in healthcare experts and students of medicine, who form the first line of defense in the war against the virus.

The fourth case is a 26-year-old male resident of Kishanbagh, Bahodapur, and was also found positive. All four are in home isolation and said to be in stable condition with mild symptoms.

The health department is on top of the situation and has already started contact tracing to determine and test the close contacts of the infected persons. There is also monitoring of family members of the patients as a precaution.

Health officials are encouraging people not to take lightly the increase in cases. They suggest the use of masks in busy areas, social distancing, and timely vaccines and booster shots. Since the virus is still evolving, the guidelines and keeping the population aware are the main tactics to avoid another mass outbreak.
