Tikamgarh: A recently constructed government building in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, built of ₹6 crores, has met raged over bad quality of construction, which raises questions on corruption.. The newly created building is situated in the Badgaon Dhansan tehsil pucca, and during construction, new cracks appear all over the building and cracks in the roof always remain problematic due to leakage problems.

Lately, the rains have exposed serious issues in the building, structural ones to be precise, due to the new advanced construction technology. The roofing is poor, and there is water seeping through the different rooms, as well as wall cracks in different sections. With this kind of construction work, quality assurances that were to be provided in the project were lacking, as observed.

During the inspection of the building, Deputy Collector Sanjay Dubey also emphasized that the construction did not match the needed quality. He has prepared a comprehensive report indicating the department’s aches and pains and will be submitting it to the Collector for further action. Thus, the report focuses on one of the particular failures, namely, the lack of quality assurance during construction.

The other official who came to the site was from the Public Works Department, namely Indra Kumar Shukla, who also inspected the work site. He has seen the vast destruction and has called for reconstruction to be carried out; this also requires the demolition of parts that were constructed haphazardly to correct the vices that are evident. As for what needs to be done in the future, Shukla’s on-site review, followed by the orders is aimed at improving the situation and avoiding further exacerbation.

This case, therefore, poses a lot of questions as to the accountability and supervision of public constructions and projects, raising questions of corruption.. Such problems demand closer supervision and increased control over construction contracts that directly affect expenditures of taxpayers’ money and the quality as well as safety preparedness of buildings and other structures for community use. The response of the local administration will be critical in fixing these current troubles and avoiding such incidences in future projects.
