Jabalpur: Despite being aware of the campaign and strict action on the part of the administration and police, instances of fraud and scams are not abating. However, there is a constant Figment of them with new methods of labouring people and carrying out wrongdoings. In such a case, a cloth merchant of the city has been cheated to an extent of over Rs. 4.25 lakh in an online fraud, according to police here today. Now, the police have joined in investigating the matter.
The crime took place in the Civil Lines police station area. As per the information, a cloth merchant, Nitesh Masih, had ordered garments and transferred Rs. 4.25 lakh through an online transaction. Although he had paid the money, he still had not received the goods. Nitesh had started looking into the matter as soon as the delivery was delayed for several days.
When the person questions the other end of the deal, the alleged fraudster sends over attached, a fake courier receipt showing that the goods have been sent. However, when Nitesh carefully verified and matched the courier details, he discovered the forgery. He immediately went to the Civil Lines police station and filed a complaint that he realized he was duped.
Nitesh mentioned in the complaint that the deal was done with a person who also introduced himself as Duggal or Dulal and claimed to be the operator of a company called Indian Clothing Company. The fraudster is suspected to have used a false identity, taken advantage of the victim to obtain trust and then carried out the scam.
The Civil Lines police have followed the complaint, registered a case, and are investigating in detail. The accused are being sought to be traced and any possible network around the fraud is being uncovered. The police also urged traders and individuals to be wary when making online transactions.
