Guna: Sumeet Meena, a 10-year-old boy from Guna district who had fallen into a borewell, was rescued through a highly charged operation that lasted 14 hours. The incident took place at Pipalya village, which is approximately 15-16 Km away from Raghogarh, on Saturday at around 4 in the evening. Sumeet is the son of Dashrath Meena, who had gone along with his brother to their family farm, where he slipped into an uncovered borewell, which was dug one year ago and was 25 feet deep when the boy fell into the hole.
Sumeet became caught at a depth of 39 feet, and the rescue effort had to begin. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) personnel contributed their efforts to rescue the boy. The rescue operation was meant to use hi-tech equipment and carefully remove Sumeet without risking the child’s life.
Finally, after nearly 14 hours of co-ordinated operation, the trapped child Sumeet was brought out of the borewell. After the rescue, he was quickly taken to a hospital in the vicinity for the purpose of this medical check. His chemo is ongoing, and officials have spoken to him in high spirits, expecting him to pull through.
Deserted borewells are very dangerous, and in the process, especially young children, are at risk of losing their lives in the line of pit. People dwelling in the concerned area have demanded higher safety norms to ensure that such open borewells are closed properly so that no further mishappenings of the sort take place in the future.
This rescue operation helps reveal the devotion and professionalism of the NDRF and SDERF teams that performed the complicated operation in adverse circumstances to save the baby. The whole local community, Sumeet’s family, has thanked them a lot; the accident once again proved that safety precautions in the rural territory are paramount.
