Chhindwara: In the municipal corporation of Chhindwara, a political change occurred; the no-confidence motion against the current chairman, Sonu Mago, was dismissed. The motion faced defeat as seven BJP councillors were reported not to have voted in favour of it. This key decision was taken during a secret ballot in which most of the persons were present in the presence of District Collector Shailendra Singh.
In the voting, BJP candidate Vijay Pandey succeeded in winning 27 votes, while the Congress party got 21 votes. However, 32 votes were needed to pass the no-confidence motion out of the 164 members of the House of Representatives. Luckily for Sonu Mago, the motion was defeated by 5 votes, which meant he was able to keep his chairmanship of the municipal corporation. This produced much cheer among the Congress workers, who considered it a huge setback for the BJP and a grand success for their party.
Once the results were announced, Sonu Mago seemed happy and said, “This is a victory for democracy.” Regardless of the existence of the cliché, the truth sometimes struggles, but the notion cannot be conquered. There is no better illustration today than the reality that the truth cannot be hidden. Indeed, we assumed this post to represent the people and shall continue to do so – as has always been the case.
This statement from Mago made a lot of sense to the Congress-supporting masses as they hailed the decision as the right thing given to their faith in Mago. This was the case because the absence of support from their own councillors was the key contributing factor to the rejection of the motion.
As Mago successfully maintains his chairmanship, the political setting in Chhindwara remains tense, and the win has rejuvenated the Congress party; question marks on the unity of BJP.
