Jabalpur: A call has been made for a criminal case to be registered against senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi on a land dispute in Bhopal. The dispute is regarding a land situated in the Huzur area of Bhopal and over which Maneka Gandhi, her brother V.M. Singh, and their sister are now fighting. The row had gone to the Madhya Pradesh High Court recently, where V.M. Singh’s legal representative had alleged that Maneka Gandhi of misled the court by filing a fake affidavit.
Apparently, Maneka, a lawyer, had intentionally hidden the fact that the Supreme Court had earlier discarded a similar plea of hers for the same land, Complaint of V.M. Singh. The lawyer claimed that by failing to inform the High Court about the precedent set by the Supreme Court in the past, and by filing a false affidavit, Maneka Gandhi tried to bend the legal proceedings in the High Court. He vouched that such an act is a serious offence and he remitted the court to direct to criminal case against her for perjury to deceive the court.
However, the lawyer of Maneka Gandhi has denied such allegations, saying that the land that was under question was illegitimately encroached by V.M. Singh without the consent of Maneka Gandhi and their sister. He insisted that her legal claims are valid and that she has the right to obtain legal remedies.
Earlier on the High Court had aimed to get an answer from the Bhopal Collector and local administration about the status and ownership of the land under dispute. The case attracts public attention because of highly placed people of influence involved and the severe nature of the accusations, such as perjury, encroachment on property within the family. The end result lies now with the court’s consideration of the claims and counterclaims that were put forward by both parties.
