Bhopal: In the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, six people were recently arrested after the police discovered a Bhopal-based ATM theft – wherein suspects sliced through a Canara Bank ATM. The arrested suspects had on them merchandise worth ₹ 3 lakhs, an auto rickshaw, and implements relevant to the crime scene. Amongst the exhibits produced in court by the police are the siren of the ATM, closed-circuit television, cutter, crowbar, pickaxe, and other accessories that went into breaking the ATM machine.
The break-in happened during the night of September 21st, around 12 midnight to 2 AM, at the facility of the Canara Bank ATM in Narela Jod, Bhopal. Earlier, they damaged the siren of the ATM and the CCTV cameras and then tried to decamp after cutting open the machine in a bid to steal cash. However, their attempt to break into the ATM in order to steal money was not successful. This was after the bank manager Ritika Kumari had reported the matter to the police, and the Ayodhya Nagar police station conducted an investigation.
The police quickly developed three special squads to arrest the offenders,. From the technical evidence and CCTV footage, they could see the suspects’ faces. From the video obtained from the CCTV cameras it was established that the thieves used a black auto-rickshaw with registration number MP 04 RB 0508. On this lead, the police devised an operation and mobilized its forces, which eventually helped in arresting the suspects.
The accused are the residents of Raisen, Gwalior, Vidisha, Banda (Uttar Pradesh), and Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh). Having shot the video, the suspects intended to leave the scene since their video clip had received a lot of views on the interwebs; however, the police caught them beforehand.
They had intended to make easy money through the theft of the ATM; the group had planned for it. The crime never occurred, though, through the timely intervention of the police, the crime was about to happen, and the culprit was arrested and the stolen items recovered.
