At around 8 am on Tuesday morning, a fire broke out in a firecracker factory in Deesa of Banaskantha district, Gujarat, and 18 workers of Madhya Pradesh were killed in the tragedy. Also among the deceased were 10 Khategaon workers working in the Dewas district. Their families and the whole village are in mourning following the devastating incident.

It is reported that the workers were inside the factory when a sudden and powerful explosion took place there, followed by a raging fire. The blast was so powerful that workers’ body parts could be found some meters away from the site where they were working. Of course, four innocent children between the ages of 5 to 11 were also among the dead.

After the incident, the district administration of Dewas immediately sent its team to Banaskantha. Officials expect to reach the site early Wednesday morning to coordinate the relief effort and ensure the safe return of the bodies of the victims.

Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh as well as Union Minister Shivraj Singh, condoled on social media. On Tuesday night, a handkerchief, which was brought to the grieving families by Khategaon MLA Ashish, who visited them, was handed over to Bindrabenba by artist Avinash Jondhale, who was present at the site of the accident. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the district administration also brought him the current situation over a phone call, he said.

By Wednesday evening, the mortal remains of the 10 workers from Khategaon are expected to reach their native village. Necessary arrangements for the last rites are being made by the local administration.
