Dewas: The issue of the removal of tribals from the Khivni Sanctuary of the district is gaining momentum. The MLA has not only come out in support of the removal of tribals without notice but has also demanded action against the officers and employees of the Forest Department who took action. BJP MLA Ashish Sharma has written a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to remove Khivni Sanctuary SDO Vikas More, Ranger Bhim Singh Sisodia and to compensate the loss suffered by the victim’s family.

Recently the forest department had taken action to remove encroachment on the houses of tribals in Khivni by claiming that they were occupying forest land. About 80 tribal families were rendered homeless due to the action of the forest department. In view of the problems faced by the tribals during the rainy season, the MLA has demanded action from the Chief Minister. In a discussion with the media, the MLA said that the matter was discussed with our officer and the Chief Minister. The incident reflects the arbitrary attitude of the officers. Now it has to be seen whether the officer or employee will be punished after the MLA writes a letter or not.

Khivni Sanctuary, located in Madhya Pradesh, is home to tribal communities who have historically coexisted with the forest. These indigenous groups often depend on the forest for their livelihoods, engaging in farming and collecting minor forest produce. Their lives are deeply intertwined with the natural environment, reflecting a traditional way of life passed down through generations.

However, their presence within the sanctuary has recently become a contentious issue. There have been reports of the forest department demolishing tribal houses, citing them as encroachments, which has led to widespread protests. The tribals assert their long-standing claim to the land, arguing that they are being unfairly evicted for the proposed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sanctuary. This ongoing conflict highlights the complex challenges of balancing wildlife conservation with the rights and traditional practices of tribal communities.
