Bhopal. An “Anti-hijack Mock Drill” was organized at Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal. The aim of this exercise was to ensure quick and coordinated response in case of emergency situations like plane hijack. During the drill, a symbolic situation of hijacking of an aircraft was created, in which quick and planned response was implemented as soon as information about the hijacking was received.

As soon as the information about the hijacking of the plane was received from ATC, all the members of the Aerodrome Committee were immediately informed, after which all the members gathered in the Aerodrome Committee Control Room located on the second floor of the Technical Block at Bhopal Airport. This committee is headed by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home Department) who coordinates with the Central Committee and ensures prompt action. The mock drill was led in the presence of IPS Krishnaveni Deshavat, Secretary, Home Department. During this, the reality of better coordination and action between various security and emergency agencies was tested.

The drill was attended by Ramji Awasthi, Airport Director, Airports Authority of India, Atul Bhanotra, Commandant Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Major Vivek Vashisht, National Security Guard (NSG), State Government representatives, Ankur Meshram, Additional Collector on behalf of District Administration, Pankaj Shrivastava, Additional Commissioner, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on behalf of District Police, Indian Army, Intelligence Bureau officials. During the drill, all agencies demonstrated mutual cooperation and promptness. This exercise ensured that Bhopal Airport is ready to act promptly and in a coordinated manner with all concerned departments in case of any emergency.
