Debra: Given that the Bharat Bandh is to be observed by the Reservation Protection Struggle Committee, police across the state are on high alert. These measures included establishing the Belgauda police station in Bhitarwar, ahead of which a checkpoint was established at Devari Depot, whereby the police searched all vehicles. During this operation, a 108 Ambulance vehicle from Bhitarwar to Magroni was intercepted and searched following a lead that an informer gave.
During the police scrutiny, their surprise was that instead of having a patient, the ambulance was loaded with a huge consignment of banned country-made liquor such as desi and English. The police also apprehended two persons inside the ambulance known as Surendra Singh Rawat and Roshan Rawat Singh Rawat. In that connection, the authorities have filed a section 34/2 case against them under the Indian Penal Code.
This particular vehicle was supposed to be stationed at the Magroni Health Center, where it was to be used to transport sick persons, Acts of need or any other emergencies. But it turned out that for the suspects, this was a good cover to transport relatives in ‘ambulances’ filled with liquors, whereby law enforcers would not dare arrest an ambulance.
The police also laid hands on the ambulance, whose further investigations were undertaken to reveal the actual depth of the operation. They are now investigating if there were other people involved or if this was part of a network which used emergency vehicles for criminal activities.
The event has attracted much attention in the area, and the people in the society have expressed a lot of emotions, expressing surprise and anger at the ability of people to misuse a car that is supposed to be used in the transportation of emergency responders. The absurdity of using an ambulance – a vehicle associated with care and emergency, effectively for criminal purposes, caused outrage.
