Gwalior: A viral video of a Bhim Army rally has caused a new wave of debate about the controversy surrounding placing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue in the High Court. A protest was held by the Azad Samaj Party (Bhim Army) to back putting up the statue, and it included a statement that has since been questioned.
Sunil Berasia, state president of Azad Samaj Party, is seen standing with a stick covered in the party’s flag in the video shared many times online. Berasia told the crowd, “The flag shows how much we care about the statue, and the stick is for people who are opposing its installation.” He named High Court Bar Association President Pawan Pathak, former president Anil Mishra and advocate Gaurav Vyas, accusing them of foiling the organisation.
The following speaker at the rally added, “We will serve you kheer if you ask for milk, but if you are unfair to us, we will retaliate.” Because some see this remark as inflammatory, it has been heavily criticised.
Atul Singh, SDM of Gwalior and Niranjan Sharma, Additional SP, have confirmed that the video was taken during the rally. Gwalior SSP has issued orders, following the statue controversy, saying that no statements meant to create problems can be made during rallies or public events. Officials have said they will respond with strict punishment if they find any scandal during their investigation.
Opposition to the installation of the Ambedkar statue comes from the High Court Bar Association, who believe it is being done improperly. Just before he retired on May 19, Chief Justice Kait called both sides to Jabalpur for a discussion and urged all sides to ensure peace until a verdict from the new Chief Justice was delivered.
