Ujjain: Since religious visitation to Ujjain, home of Baba Mahakal, has increased, along with the approach of Simhastha 2028, work on airport expansion has picked up pace. Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Madhya Pradesh, Ujjain will see its air connectivity enhanced.
A landmark agreement is to be made between the Aviation Department of the Madhya Pradesh State Government and the Airports Authority of India on Friday. It will greatly improve the aviation infrastructure of Ujjain. AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar will be present as three key contracts are signed. The construction of the airport is the first task, the second covers operation and maintenance, and the third allows AAI to approve any statutory requirements.
At this time, the airport in Ujjain sits on about 95 acres. Nonetheless, AAI wants to acquire 241 acres for the new project. As per the Aviation Department, the Ujjain district administration is being instructed to arrange the rest of the land.
Upon finishing the airport expansion, Ujjain will also handle ATR-72 craft, making regional air services much better. Ujjain is now the second city in Madhya Pradesh, following Shivpuri, to enter into an agreement with AAI. Shivpuri made its agreement in October 2024, with a total of 59.30 acres manageable and another 45.89 acres requested to expand.
In addition to airport improvements, Ujjain is getting ready to open four new helipads in Sadawal. Because of these new facilities, people travelling for religious or cultural reasons will enjoy Ujjain even more, strengthening its reputation as a major attraction.
