Bhopal: Assembly elections were held in three states, including Madhya Pradesh, and the results are now in. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) participated in the electoral battleground this time, contesting in all three states but faced defeat in each. The party fielded 215 candidates across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. However, not a single victory was secured in any of the states, and bail for 201 candidates has been confiscated.
In Madhya Pradesh, AAP contested on more than 70 assembly seats but failed to secure a win on 63 seats, with the party receiving only 0.44% of the total votes. Surprisingly, the party received fewer votes than NOTA (None of the Above) in Madhya Pradesh. AAP garnered a total of 2,33,458 votes, while NOTA received 4,27,710 votes, indicating that NOTA surpassed AAP by more than 1,90,000 votes.
The much-discussed candidate from AAP, Rani Agrawal, who was the Mayor of Singrauli and the state president, faced defeat in Madhya Pradesh. Despite high hopes for victory, she received fewer votes than the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate. In the Damoh constituency, which garnered significant attention, AAP’s candidate, the TV actress Chaht Pandey, received only 2,292 votes. The competition here mainly unfolded between Congress’s Ajay Tandon and BJP’s Jayant Malaiya, with BJP’s Ramanivas Shah ultimately emerging victorious with 38,196 votes.
In total, AAP contested 519 seats across the three states, with more than 70 candidates in Madhya Pradesh, 88 in Rajasthan, and 57 in Chhattisgarh. Out of these, 201 candidates had their bail confiscated, dealing a significant blow to Kejriwal’s ambitions in all three states. This setback comes after AAP achieved the status of a national party in April 2023.
