Indore: Two players of the Australian team who had come to participate in the Women’s Cricket World Cup became victims of the brutality. While the two women cricketers were walking from Hotel Radisson Blu to a cafe, a youth on a bike not only followed them on Khajrana Road but also touched one of the players inappropriately. Scared by the incident, the players immediately sent their live location and SOS signal to their team’s security officer Danny Simmons. Within minutes, there was panic among the security agencies from Australia to India.

Danny Simmons, the team’s security manager, filed a complaint at MIG police station. MIG police registered an FIR under sections 74 and 78 of the IPC and arrested the accused, Aqeel. The accused is said to be a resident of Khajrana and has prior criminal cases against him. This incident, which occurred around 11 am on Thursday, exposes the police’s security preparations. In the city where the foreign players are staying, security arrangements around the Radisson Blu Hotel were only on paper. There were no female officers deployed, nor was there an adequate police force.

Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh reprimanded the intelligence team and formed a joint team of Vijaynagar, MIG, Khajrana, Pardeshipura and Kanadia police stations. The investigation also revealed that the players had left the hotel alone and there was no security on the way. ACP Himani Mishra and SI Nidhi Raghuvanshi met the players and recorded their statements. Both players described the entire incident in an application written in English. The young man riding the bike was drunk and was repeatedly trying to touch them. Due to the presence of mind of a local person, the bike number was noted and on that basis the accused was caught.
