Kolkata: Thousands of individuals have started a rally in Kolkata, demanding justice for the rape and murder case in Kolkata. This march will take place from Hiland Park to Shyambazar crossing and will cover 42 kilometres, with the main objective of providing justice to the trainee doctor. This rally event saw massive participation from the public, including doctors, members of various voluntary organizations, associations for the specially-abled, cartoonists, IT professionals, scientists, and professors.
This rally for the Kolkata Rape-Murder case started in the evening at 4 PM and continued till midnight. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, who are rival football clubs, also joined the rally to come together for a common purpose. It covered various important regions in the city, such as Ruby Crossing, VIP Bazar, Science City, and Chingrighata, taking a detour through Beleghata Building More, Mallick Bazar, NRS Medical College, and SSKM Hospital. Afterward, they went on to the Shyambazar in the northern Kolkata region.
People who participated in this rally had flaming torches in their hands, along with slogans that demanded justice for the incident that took place at the RG Kar Hospital the previous month. One of the slogans held by the rally members read, “Justice delayed is justice denied. We want a speedy trial and justice for Abhaya.”
One of the participants in the rally was a retired teacher and he was deeply saddened by this incident. He continued saying, “The medic was like my granddaughter. Let no other granddaughter face such a grim fate.” The junior doctors in Bengal also ended their protest at the Swasthya Bhavan and they announced to partially resume their services.
