CPI state leadership of Kerala’s ruling LDF has joined the chorus to demand Mukesh M, the CPI(M) and actor turned MLA, to quit his elected post in Kollam after accusations of rape and sexual assault were levelled against him. This came after the police filed an FIR against Mukesh M and three other prominent actors on Thursday. CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam, acting for the party’s interest, demanded the resignation of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who said that he was seriously considering this request so that Mukesh could not take advantage of the post.
Viswam apprised Kerala CM Vijayan that the CPI insists that Mukesh has to step down from his legislative function as a principal secretary. However, the CPI(M) is still tight-lipped on the issue, at least up to this time. But as per some reports, the party state secretariat is prepared to reportedly consider Mukesh’s resignation at its meeting on Friday.
In his defence, Mukesh has reportedly gone underground and has contacted CM Vijajan to clear his name. He has alleged that the complainant wanted to extort money from him. Mukesh also described that he had evidence, including WhatsApp chats, that would be produced to support his cases. The FIR went to be lodged after an actress lodged a complaint staking claims of abuses in both oral and physical forms against Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju and Idavela Babu teaming up in the cine world. The actress has since left the Malaysian film industry and migrated to Chennai pointing to the abuse she encountered.
Mukesh has been quick to fault them as politically influenced, something that is not new to him, especially following a similar experience in 2018. He said he would be willing to go along with the ongoing investigations while implying that a non-partisan inquiry is needed to get to the bottom of the story.
