The protests of Junior Doctors and Political Parties started a day after the two main accused, who raped and murdered a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, got bail. The demonstrations revealed the increasing frustration of people with the so-called inefficiency of the CBI in a quest for justice.

The Congress and Left parties organised processions at several places in the city, alleging that the CBI was being negligent and that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was hand in gloves with the BJP-led central government. The protesters said there is an implication between the two parties, as they accused them of denying justice to the victim.

The Congress was seen staging a big march from Rabindra Sadan to the CBI office at Nizam Palace in south Kolkata. Carrying party flags and shouting, ‘We want justice’ and ‘Bichar chai Tilottoma,’ the activists bristled. The marchers confronted police at the end of the march as the officers prevented the protesters from proceeding into Nizam Palace, and there was pushing and shoving.

On the other hand, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front also held its rally from Karunamayee to the CBI office at the CGO Complex, Salt Lake. Several hundred junior doctors, including the parents of the victim, walked one kilometre to protest against all the conspirators of the case. The protesters also turned their anger on the CBI over what they said was delaying in filing charges against the accused and demanded action.

They were sparked by the recent bail granted to two suspects in the August 9 heinous act of rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The demonstrators concentrated on the call for justice delivery, warning the authorities to move with speed on the investigations to get all the responsible parties held.
