Koraput: In the Jaypore block of Koraput district, the past two days have witnessed terror among villagers due to the presence of a group of four wild bears. These bears have been roaming around the roads near Sindheegam, Hadiya, and Putra villages day and night. The roar of the wild bears near human settlements has instilled fear among the rural residents. Nowadays, villages appear deserted before sunset, and those who used to use these roads for commuting are forced to take alternate longer routes due to the fear of bear attacks. Some individuals, unable to return to their homes, are seeking refuge in other villages during the night.
Reportedly, officials from the forest department are attempting to drive the bears back into the wilderness. Villagers have been advised not to approach the bears for their safety. The recent situation has led to desolate villages before sundown. People who used these routes for their daily commute now have to opt for longer paths to avoid the fear of bear encounters. Some individuals find it challenging to return to their homes and are temporarily seeking shelter in neighboring villages.
