On Monday, the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) published the second list of candidates in the Bihar Assembly elections in 2025 and announced 65 new names. Overwhelmingly, the chief strategist and founder of the party, Prashant Kishor, has not been on the list yet. As of the last announcement, the party has announced 116 out of 243 seats in the state.

Niraj Singh of Sheohar, Md Ekramul Haque of the Thakurganj seat in Kishanganj, Amir Haider of Bhadurpur in Darbhanga and Durga Prasad Singh of Ujarpur in Samastipur are the newcomers in the list. When he was responding to a press conference, Kishor said, “In the first list, we had posted candidates on 51 seats, and in the second list, we posted nominees on 65 seats. Applicants for the vacancies will be announced subsequently.”

JSP is the first political outfit to announce its candidates even before the assembly election with the first list being announced on Thursday. The party has branded itself as an option to the voters who want new leadership, and it has also managed the tricky social and caste politics in Bihar when making its choices.

Prashant Kishor emphasised the social representation approach of the party, saying that out of the 116 candidates who have been named so far, 31 are extremely weaker, 21 are Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and 21 are Muslims. The previous list included outstanding individuals like KC Sinha, former Vice-Chancellor, Patna University and Nalanda Open University, who is also running against Kumhara, retired IPS officer RK Mishra who is running against Darbhanga.

The JSP announcement follows the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which reached its seat-sharing deal on Sunday. With this arrangement, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) have agreed to fight an equal number of seats, leading to the commencement of an organised campaign strategy among alliances.
