The Prashant Kishor led Jan Suraaj campaign which is still reeling in the aftermath of its poor performance in the Bihar Assembly elections has made a big charge against the NDA government. In an interview, the spokesperson of the party Pavan Verma said that the central government channeled money supplied by the world bank in a separate project and utilized the money in political interest during the election.

Verma also reported that 10,000 was deposited to the bank accounts of 1.25 crore female voters under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana just before the elections. He claimed that the money was not included in the budgeted spending of the state but he stole it, from a 21,000-crore fund offered by the World Bank to do some other developmental work. Verma also claimed that the public debt of Bihar has been 4,06,000 crore with the government paying close to 63 crore a day in interest which is a major indication that the treasury is in a dire situation.

He alleged that within an hour of the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, 14000 crore funds tied to World Bank were taken out and given to 1.25 crore women in the state. Verma, however, also included some words of caution, admitting that the accusation might be justified or not because complete disclosure on how the funds will be used is yet not clear.

The spokesman of the Jan Suraaj also added that there was rumors amongst many women that the remaining would only be transferred back to power should the NDA come back to power. Among the four crore female population of Bihar, 2.5 crore women were reported to have got no money, so the benefits of the scheme were said to be politically favoritistic.

Verma stated that these extensive distributions of money affected the voter behaviour by showing that when Jan Suraaj made promises grounded on the governance, and long term reforms but the ruling party allegedly based on direct cash transfers.
