On Wednesday, the Jammu & Kashmir assembly adopted a resolution against the backdrop of strong BJP opposition demanding that the Centre hold a dialogue with the elected representatives with respect to the withdrawal of the provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to the erstwhile state.

The resolution to be moved through the voice vote moved by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary urged the government to review the revocation of Article 370 on the consideration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The parliamentary session saw a lot of disruptions, and there was slogan shouting between opposition and BJP members, causing the house to sit. After the noise, Choudhary came down heavily on the BJP, saying that the party was not being honest about its stand on the matter.

“Of course, we are only requesting the special status that was stripped off from us in 2019. If you give a narco-test, even BJP fellows, you will come to know they want the same only,” Choudhary sharply mocked the BJP.

He also accused the BJP of increasing the influx in Jammu and Kashmir through buying properties and getting jobs. Choudhary categorically pointed out that the resolution was meant to protect the future of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the people of Jammu, who he said are the most affected by any change.

He also pointed out that the BJP had assured other states like Bihar and Andhra Pradesh of special status, but they didn’t offer the same to Jammu and Kashmir. The Deputy CM further said, “When BJP use the name of Lord Ram in the assembly, we tell them that everybody has his/her rights and Jammu and Kashmir should also get its special status.”
