A bus fire on the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur Highway in Rajasthan has tragically resulted in the deaths of 20 passengers and injuries to 15 others. Upon investigation into the incident, authorities determined that a jammed door prevented several passengers from escaping the moving AC sleeper bus, which held a total of 57 passengers. Authorities reported that they could not escape due to the door being stuck while they tried to escape the fire.

Most of the bodies were found in the Jaisalmer bus aisle, which indicated that victims were attempting to escape but could not. Army personnel had to force the door open to assist with the rescue. Some passengers attempted to escape through breaking windows, while a tanker passed by and used its water to control the fire.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire as well as the circumstances regarding the door jam. This event raises serious safety issues concerning the preparedness of vehicles containing passengers as they make their way down various highways.
