On Saturday, the Hyderabad Police arrested two students for dangerously racing with luxury SUVs along the city’s Outer Ring Road (ORR). After CCTV footage of the dangerous incident was released, the incident allegedly happened on February 9.
The footage saw the driver of a Toyota Fortuner doing stunts that were deemed dangerous, hogging the center lane of a five-lane highway. A couple of short seconds later, a BMW did exactly the same thing, pulling a few stunts around the side of the road. The video shows other cars coming from afar to risk nearby motorists and the potential danger they may run into.
The drivers of the two vehicles removed their number plates before carrying out the stunts in an attempt to evade police identification. However, although their faces will be clearly visible in the CCTV footage, the authorities tracked them down. The police know exactly who the two involved in the incident are based on video evidence.
The authorities have denounced the incident, warning of the ramifications of such reckless driving in public places. Stunting in high-speed zones not only puts the lives of the drivers at risk but also puts the lives of other motorists in great peril. The police in Hyderabad have warned those indulging in illegal activity on public roads to take strict action against them.
It is yet one more in the growing list of irresponsible driving by young motorists, especially with high-performance cars. Now, law enforcement agencies are starting to examine tougher surveillance and penalties to prevent this reckless act as more people get killed in car accidents. Under relevant traffic and criminal laws, the arrested students may be brought to legal consequences.
