After a report from the relief and disaster management department of Manipur, it has been revealed that more than 20000 people have been affected, and 3820 houses have been damaged due to the heavy rainfall in the state for the last few days.

The ongoing floods since 1st July have affected more than 13 districts of the State, and the major affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Thoubal, and Bishnupur. Major rivers across the state, including the Iril, Imphal, Kongba, and Nambol, have inundated and have further worsened the condition.

At the present time, about 1,251 of these persons are residents at the relief camps managed by the state government. Measures were responding to the current crisis; Manipur’s government stated that this entire week, Monday would be a working day; schools and educational institutions in Manipur were also shut down on Friday and Saturday.

Based on the records of heavy rainfall, Imphal airport received 15.4mm of rainfall by 8:30 am on Friday. Other affected parts, such as Churachandpur, are registered at 16mm, Kangpokpi at 18mm, Bishnupur at 32mm, and Tamenglong at 20.1mm of rainfall within a similar period.

The state authorities are fully involved in the provision of disaster relief to reduce the effects of the floods. It still remains a worrying state since continued rainfall stipulates more problems, as observed in the affected areas and structures.

The state relief and disaster management department and other officers of the state are assessing the situation, engaging themselves in the rescue operation, and providing relief to the affected people. Of course, such problems are important because, first of all, the management focuses on the protection of the affected population, offering them the necessities to have shelter, food, medical help, and so on and so forth.

The calling of a public holiday and school closure is an indication of a serious situation and the nation’s leadership’s seriousness in dealing with the problem. Thus, with rain continuing to drench Manipur, further modifications and programs are expected to counter the new problems arising from flooding in the region.
