Mumbai: Heavy rain has caused havoc in Mumbai, and it is likely to get worse because IMD predicts more rainfall in the next 2-3 days. According to the IMD, the city will receive a yellow warning for the next two days; it will continue to receive intense spells of rain. On top of that, there was also an orange alert on July 23, suggesting that even worse weather could be expected. From Sunday morning, the city and its suburbs were brought 102 mm of rainfall till 08 PM of July 21.
These have resulted in the cutting off of rail and road transport links around the region due to the water causing a number of areas around the city to be heavily flooded. The occurrence of rainfall has also affected airplane movement with some of the planes having to be redirected because of the unfavourable weather. The consistent heavy rain has already brought rather deteriorating standards not only for Mumbai but also for several areas in Maharashtra.
Mumbai and Other Cities Face Heavy Rain
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted extremely heavy rainfall for some parts of Maharashtra, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Satara districts. The alert stands at Yellow for 16 districts in the state, including Thane, Pune, Palghar, and Nagpur. Due to the warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, the Nagpur division has closed all schools in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli districts of Vidarbha and in four talukas of Raigad district on the coastal area.
NRDF Teams Deployed
As can be expected, more rains will continue to pour down in Maharashtra, and hence, the NDRF has been put on high alert to respond to the disaster. Other than its auxiliary stations in Mumbai and Nagpur, many NDRF teams have been posted to different places like Vasai (Palghar), Thane, Ghatkopar, Powai (Kurla), Mahad (Raigad), Khed and Chiplun (Ratnagiri), Kudal (Sindhudurg), Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara. This broad utilization is meant to deal with unpredicted crises and deliver help to the concerned region.
